Who We Are?
Course Description
The Communications Technology (TGJ2O) course teaches students about media and technology through fun, hands-on projects. Students explore areas like video and movie production, radio and audio editing, photography, graphic design, and animation. They learn to create things such as videos, logos, web pages, and commercials while understanding how media affects the world around them. The course also encourages teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving while helping students learn about careers in technology and design.
This course connects to Catholic values by teaching students to use technology responsibly and ethically. They learn to respect people, protect the environment, and make thoughtful choices about how they use media. Students are graded on knowledge, thinking, communication, and application through projects like commercials, designs, and videos. Along the way, students develop important learning skills, such as responsibility, teamwork, organization, and self-regulation, that will help them succeed in school, work, and life.
Video and Movie Production
Learning video and movie production is important because it teaches you how to tell stories using cameras, sound, and editing. You learn how to plan scenes, film them, and put everything together to make a final video. These skills help you express your ideas in creative ways, and they are useful for school projects, social media, and even future jobs in film or media.
Radio and Audio Editing
Radio and audio editing are important because sound is a huge part of communication. You learn how to record voices, music, and sound effects, and then edit them so they are clear and interesting. These skills can help you make podcasts, announcements, or audio parts for videos. Good sound makes your work more professional and enjoyable to listen to.
Photography
Photography is important because it teaches you how to capture moments and tell stories with pictures. You learn about lighting, angles, and how to focus on the right details. This skill is useful for school projects, social media, and creative work. Good photos can make any project look better and more eye-catching.
Graphic Design
Graphic design is important because it teaches you how to make posters, logos, ads, and digital art that look clean and professional. You learn how to use colours, fonts, and layout to send a message. This helps design school assignments, create online content, or even helping with real events or clubs.
Animation
Animation is important because it teaches you how to bring drawings and objects to life. You learn how to create movement frame by frame, which helps you understand timing, creativity, and storytelling. Animation is used in movies, video games, apps, and more, so it’s a great skill for the future.
About St. Joan of Arc
Welcome to Saint Joan of Arc Catholic High School! I’m so excited to be part of this amazing school community. Our teachers and staff are super friendly and always willing to help. Whether you’re coming back this year or joining us for the first time, you’re going to love being here. There are so many fun things to do, great classes, clubs, sports teams, and activities where everyone can get involved and make new friends.
At Saint Joan of Arc, we believe everyone should feel safe to be themselves. It’s okay to make mistakes because that’s how we learn and grow. We’re all encouraged to try new things and step out of our comfort zones. Our school teaches us to be kind, forgiving, and to always do our best. We don’t have to be perfect just the best version of ourselves.
We’re also taught to use our talents to do great things, whether it’s in academics, sports, arts, or helping others. Our school is a welcoming place where everyone belongs and is treated with respect. We work together, learn together, and support one another like a family. I’m proud to be part of Saint Joan of Arc, and I know this year will be full of learning, laughter, and new experiences. Together, WE can!
